Any relation between Ubuntu Rosetta and the commercial product Rosetta Stone ?

Asked by John D

Ubuntu's translation subsystem ("product") is called "Rosetta".

There is ALSO a commercial translation software product named "Rosetta Stone".

Is there any relationship between these two, or is it just coincidence** ??

** both product names refer to the Hieroglyph-cracking stele found in Rosetta, Egypt, in Napoleonic times. The large flat stone had three sections of writings inscribed; each in a different language. One of the languages was Greek, which was well-understood, so the stone served as the long-sought key to deciphering ancient Egyptian Hieroglyph writing.

No, there is no relationship between them. It's just a coincidence.

Also, the part of Launchpad formerly known as Rosetta is now called Launchpad Translations.

aha, just coincidence of name.

met some resistance from a candidate language community, as they'd said "No" to (expensive) commercial product named Rosetta "STONE".

I must now introduce them to the separate Ubuntu "ROSETTA" and get them started.

Thanks to Carlos and Community.
