I'm Fernando Alava, the former owner of the fernando launchpad account... Personally I don't need a short user name because I have to login with email and password after all, but I'm wondering... this is your police regarding user names? anyone can claim any other's user name? what is the required inactivity period?

Regarding the new user name: I can't claim it because I registered into launchpad with an old email account that now I don't own (<email address hidden>) and the old password also does not work.

Now I'm here with a new email and account, I don't see any problem, just get a little frustrated.

Ouch, I hate it when that happens. Fernando A., the truth is that we don't really have a clear policy; admins decide when they think a rename is reasonable or not. I apologize for making a precipitated call there, because I really assumed your account was inactive and that you would not care. If you like I can revert the change immediately; I am sure you have priority as you were the original owner of the account. Sorry!

As for your fernando-alava user account, I will merge it for you now (when you don't have access to your original email account, just ask an admin to sort it out). We can still rename afterwards depending on your decision above. Please let me know how you feel -- I don't want to leave anybody in cold water. Thanks.
