unsafe (or not-the-ubuntu-way) command in the ppa install howto

this page https://launchpad.net/+help-soyuz/ppa-sources-list.html which is linked on every ppa launchpad page states the following command, which is unsafe: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
in this case the command doesnt harm the system but it leads the users to use the sudo command with grafical programs which will cause problems.

in this howto the command should be either: gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list or sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Can you provide some background on why sudo with graphical programs is problematic?
