How is that possible?

To do this, go to https://launchpad.net/cinnamon-desktop/+edit and change the "Part of" field.

I click on choose...

enter "linuxmint" but nothing was found.

In Launchpad, only Project Groups can contain Projects. Projects cannot contain other projects. Since Linux Mint is a Project, not a Project Group, it cannot contain Cinammon Desktop.
