request to change ownership for the en_AU ubuntu translation team

Asked by Joel Pickett

Hi,

I'm currently part of the Australian Ubuntu translators team. I'd like for the team to have a mailing list and coordinate some of the blueprints and activities for the team. The owner, Isopogon, looks to be inactive since I've tried to contact via launchpad email - no public email on homepage. There has been no response. The team itself has been pretty dormant up until earlier this year. People have been doing translations here and there but the team hasn't been structured as a team. The team permissions are perhaps marked as Open, when they should be Moderated or Restricted. The team's guidelines and current membership option are a little outdated. Isopogon's most recent activities seem to be from mid-06 when translating the gdebi package.

I'd like to nominate myself to take on the owner of the team. I have done around 25% of the total strings for the Ubuntu en_AU division. This would allow me to set up the mailing list and coordinate priority packages and roadmaps for the current release segment/cycle.

As a note, I also coordinate the Launchpad en_AU translators group - would be good (with list consensus) to link the ubuntu and launchpad en_AU teams together.

For testimonials, I'd like to think that either Jared Norris or Joel Addison would be able to vouch for me to take this position, if Isopogon is deemed inactive/unresponsive.

I can support that Joel is by far the most active member of the team and has the drive to continue building upon recent successes. If the current owner is absent or willing to step aside and support a rejuvenation Joel is the perfect leader for the team.

He has strong ties to the LoCo here in Australia and has organised translation events here as Ubuntu Global Jam events which has resulted in more people working towards translations. He has shown leadership qualities within the team and I believe he would take the responsibility on well.

It makes sense to me and there is support from other team members.

LOSAs, could you please transfer the ownership of https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-en-au to https://launchpad.net/~jpickett?

Thanks

Also Joel, when you're given ownership it would be great if you could have a read through the "Ubuntu Translation teams" part of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/KnowledgeBase/#Policies

Thanks!

I also support Joel Pickett's request for the ownership transfer. He has been working very hard over the past few months to help reduce the number of enAU translations still to be completed, so we are now on target to hopefully finish the majority of the translating by Ubuntu 12.04. Joel is a great inspiration to many Ubuntu Australia LoCo members, with several people starting to work on translations due to his hard work.

I think having a new owner of the Ubuntu enAU translations team would help to get the team on track to have a better structure, as well as better translation guides so everyone can be on the same page when translating. I know Joel would facilitate this very well, based on his positive attitude and willingness to assist where possible.
