replace lots of comments with one comment

Asked by Pedro Bessa

In https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-appmenu/+bug/734325, delete comments from #18 to #23 including both, then insert one comment at #18 saying:

In Natty, using a hack that I found on the internet, I have the unity launcher always visible and using an other hack that I found on the internet, I have the title in the top bar and the menu bar always visible, so that things disappearing and reappearing won't give me a <blink> feeling.

Maverick with no changes after install has a top bar, a bottom bar, a title bar and a menu bar (4 vertical bars and vertical space is expensive). My Natty has a top bar and a menu bar (it's half vertical bars, it's 2 vertical bars only). It's a lot of progress to have half vertical bars.

Since things disappearing and reappearing can give users a <blink> feeling and it's a lot of progress to have half vertical bars, I wish Unity would allow its users to to have the horizontal and vertical bars always visible.

Hello. Thank you for using Launchpad.

I can hide your comments, but I cannot insert new ones for you. Would you like us to hide comments 18-23, and then you can add your new comment at the bottom?

Gary

I thought the bad comments had been deleted and the good comment inserted. Please, hide comments 18-23 and add my new comment at the bottom.

Hello, I'm not Canonical-affiliated, but I'd like to make a comment on this.

In my opinion, the potential confusion caused by editing the comment history in this way is far worse than the very *very* small benefit in "tidying up" a comment split over multiple entries.

My suggestion is that the bug history should be left well alone here.

Indeed, I agree with Max: your previous comments have already produced emails to all the bug subscribers, and a new joint one would only confuse them. There is no harm in your multiple comments, and if they've been made close enough, they would have been sent out as only one email already. So, my suggestion is to just not worry about it.

Can you help with this problem?
