Changing the ownership of Launchpad Ukrainian Translators Team

Asked by Yuri Chornoivan

For some reason the current owner of Launchpad Ukrainian Translators team became unreachable.

There was no answer to my mali to the mailing list for 5 months:

https://lists.launchpad.net/lp-l10n-uk/msg00000.html

My private mail to the team owner (sent 5 months ago) also gave nothing in response.

The problem were discussed on #ubuntu-translators (archive from 2011-05-25).

Please reassign the owner of the team to someone more responsive. If you do not know such a person, yo can change the owner to my account.

Thanks in advance for your work.

I asked the question on the team membership:

https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/155900

There was no responses from team members.

Regretfully, Launchpad Translations Coordinators must be fantastically overloaded and there was no progress for 3 weeks.

Hi Yuri,

Thanks for filing the support request as per our IRC conversation on #ubuntu-translators, but I believe the "Regretfully, Launchpad Translations Coordinators must be fantastically overloaded and there was no progress for 3 weeks." comment was not really necessary.

You'll find that people will be generally more willing to help without derogatory comments :(

We're an open source project, and if something is not working, it's better to ask how one can help, rather than complaining about other people.

Now I'd suggest to rather concentrate on sorting this out. If the request is not acted upon soon, you can ping us either on #launchpad or also #ubuntu-translators.

Thanks.

Response to the comment #2:
Thanks for reminding this is open source project. Closed source projects like Opera ( http://www.opera.com/ ) was and are very responsive and I've just forgot that this is open source.

I have never seen such a needless bureaucratic structure of hundreds of teams the only purpose of which is just to approve each other, as Launchpad Translators is.

I will definitely use this as an example to recommend developers not to use "Structured" or "Restricted" permissions for LP-translators if they do not want to lose their translators.

My work does not allow me to wait for the hours on IRC just to ping random people, sorry. I will just wait for 3 weeks, mark this question as solved, and inform about this as many people as I can.

Hi Yuri,

Such discussions would be best brought up on the launchpad-translators
mailing list, where we can talk about it at length, but they do not add
any needed information to the current support request.

This structure has worked for 43 other teams so far, and we haven't had
any complaints from them.

As I said on IRC, the current issue has not been caused by the existence
of the Launchpad Translators group structure, but rather by the Ukranian
Launchpad Translators team not being active since it was created 5
months ago.

First of all, let me say that your contributions to Open Source are very
appreciated. Your time is just as valuable as the one from any other
contributor. I myself don't have much time to contribute to all Open
Source projects I'd like to, so I make sure this little time is spent on
constructive actions, and I try to focus on getting things done and
getting involved in solving processes where I see things needing
improvement. That's how Open Source moves forward.

In any case, again, let's focus on sorting out this request. It has now
been assigned to the Launchpad LOSAs, who have the permissions to assign
you the ownership, and it will be acted upon soon.

Regards,
David.
