is there a way to group some upstream project as part of a registered distribution?

Asked by Enrique Hernández Bello

Hello! I come back to attack again ;)

I wondered if is it possible to group some upstream project as part of a registered distribution in Launchpad to share the support system like a project group.

I've created some project as this:
launchpad.net/bardinux-meta
launchpad.net/bardinux-live
launchpad.net/gfxboot-theme-bardinux

..and a distribution:

http://launchpad.net/bardinux

All of them, owned by 'bardinux-branches' team. They are related with the same distro but all of them seem individual.

I can't set each project field named 'Part of' to the 'Bardinux' distribution. Should there be a new project group? These group of projects can be associated with the distribution?

Thanks for your support.

No, Distros are a collection of packages and mirrors in Launchpad. But launchpad only supports packages for Ubuntu (with some limited support for debian). Since no other distro can have packages or mirrors, they are not much more than place holders. While you state that bardlinux uses Launchpad translations, I know that is not possible because it does not have any packages.

When bardlinux was a project group [1] (which you asked us to remove [2]), you had a means to group the project together and see all the series and milestones in unified views. You also had better bug and blueprint management.

then renamed and hidden as https://edge.launchpad.net/deleteme1

Ok, I misunderstood again. I wanted something impossible: a project group and a distro toghether. With this limitation, a distro in launchpad is not really usefull for a non Ubuntu distribution, I think.

However, Is it possible to recover 'deletme1' proyect group as bardinux-project? (without 'L')

This is what I think the LOSAs need to do:
1. rename /bardlinux to /deleteme2
2. rename /deleteme1 to /bardlinux
3. make ~ehbello the maintain of /bardlinux

Then ~ehbello can visit each of his projects
1. Choose Change details
2. set "Part of" to "bardlinux"

I recommend that ~ehbello create a team names bardlinux-drivers and make that team the driver of the project group. This allows you to have a team with the project name associated with each project. This also allows members to work with bugs and blueprints.

bardlinux-drivers should also own the archive that distributes the project's packages--create a ppa named bardlinux from the bardlinux-drivers page, and put the packages there.

Oh, do not misunderstand me. I would like to keep the distro in launchpad. I propose this actions to LOSAs:

1. rename /deleteme1 to /bardinux-project
2. make me (~ehbello) the maintainer of /bardinux-project

Respectly to bardinux-drivers team, I would prefer to maintain bardinux-branches as driver team of the projects. We are still few. Will there be any problem with this?

deleteme1 has been renamed to bardinux-project and ~ehbello has been assigned as the maintainer.
