After serious error message appeared when using Jokosher, I found that all sound was lost from outputs of computer with Feisty Fawn. Problem only with installed version, not cd boot Feisty Fawn where no problem. Hence not a hardware problem. I believe installed Feisty Fawn has become corrupted by a Jokosher bug.

Asked by Eric Penrose

Have checked whether the sound loss is a preference ->sound - setting problem, but I put in the same for what was working on cd boot version of Feisty and no help with the sound loss. Also tried removing and also reinstalling Jokosher again and no help.

Should I reinstall Ubuntu 7.04 or is there another way out of this problem?

I would try using a wav file and entering in the command line:
aplay /home/user/path/to/file.wav

This will by pass all the gstreamer and gnome stuff and go straight to the sound card driver.
You have probably already done this, but check all the levels and switches in gnome volume mixer. Sometimes when the sound driver is reset, all the volume controls go to zero.
The third thing I would try is creating a new user. If there is some setting that got changed, the new user will use default ubuntu settings.

Let me know if you find out any more clues.
Cheers.
