using inkscape to ajjast a pedigree

i have a BMP (bitmap) file with a pedigree (drawon by another software) and i want to change it a little :
reordering tne individuals , set the lines as i like ect.

can i do it with inkscape ? any other softwere ?

Hi, irit

You have choices - if your pedigree is clear-looking with good
resolution, then try to 'trace' it in Inkscape. Open your bitmap in
Inkscape, select it, then Path - Trace Bitmap. so you receive vector
image of your pedigree, then you could use Inkscape tools for changes.

second choice is to use raster editor (e.g. GIMP) - but I think it
will be hell (especially if individuals have different sized frames,
also line width..)

Maybe will be better to draw it from scratch? :)
In Inkscape or in Dia? So you will be free to set desired lines, forms etc.

thanks for your answer
i try to trace it - but what should the result be ?
am i suppose to get a new file saved anywhere ?
because clicking OK seem to do nothing ...

when you press OK, above your bitmap should appear traced image. If
your image is Black/white you can not to see vector image. try to
select it and move.
