border scrolls

Asked by bcrossb

i was reading answer for border on awards. answer did not proceed beyond asking for an example. i would also like to create border scrolls for awards. i don't know how to vectorize anything(sorry, new to this area of art/graphics) but am working on making awards for my amateur radio club. if you need example of what i want to make, see "home.san.rr.com/wb1dsj" , proceed to awards page, see award thumbnail 3. you can email me link to tutorial at <email address hidden>.
thank you for any and all help.

For borders you could simply make a path which imitates your picture and clone it with a shift to it, see Edit ->Clone -> Create tiled

Path -> Inset/Outset may also be of help.

ok, what am i missing. i tried a clone, but only came up with 5 additional objects. then path, inset/outset was not an option.
i would really like a tutorial on vectoring the scrolls for an award border. thanks, bob

Bob, what you are asking for is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guilloch%C3%A9

Currently you cannot easily do it in Inkscape. An extension for that was requested a while ago and is not created by anybody yet. So there is not tutorial how to create it, sorry.

However, you could probably use http://openclipart.org/people/molumen/molumen_Guilloche.svg temporarily
