how do I cut the background away from jpeg

Asked by fxdewet

I'm still learning the program. I import a jpeg and want to just use the diamond in the foreground to put it on another background, I need it the existing background to be invisible or transparent.

You can use a clipping path. Draw a path around the edge of the diamond, then select the JPEG and the path, and from the menu do Object -> Clip -> Set.

I am trying to use plaid backgrounds with a scottie dog out line I can get as far as putting the objects together and lower the scottie dog to the bottom layer. When use the path difference nothing happens. I can use a black and white image and it works but I'd really like to use the plaid so that I can print and cut. Thank you for your help! Regards, Jeane
