problem with exclusion etc.

Asked by belle

in order to use the functions exclusion or inclusion etc. does the paths selected have to be closed objects ? i am working on an illustration made from a photo of the eiffel tower, on that i've drawn the basic lines and curves of the tower, but all of them are just open lines. all of the lines are now overlapping each other and i would like define an area that 'is above' others and then take away parts of the lines that cross this area so i can fill it with a color.
can someone please help me, i'm new at this !

Exclusion, intersection, etc., can be used with open paths, but they treat the open paths as though they were closed (with a straight line from one end to the other). So they won't do what you want.

Can't you just put a coloured area over the top of what you currently have? (Draw the shape of the area you want to colour, then add a colour fill using the Fill and Stroke dialog.) Or have I misunderstood what you're trying to do?
