No symbolic font ?

Asked by Lew Mammel

I see this question has been asked, and the answer was to try version 0.46, but I have version 0.46 and I just came up with the same issue. What I want is greek symbols for math notation. ( MS Paint on my PC has a symbol font which works, if that's relevant. )

I'd recommend using a font that has a Greek character set in it. In Windows, there's quite a few. The Arial font collection, Courier New, the Franklin Gothic font collection, and Georgia, to name a few, all have a Greek character set. Open up the Character Map ("charmap" in a Run dialog will start it up) to select the characters you want to use from the font. Then, simply hit "Copy" and paste them into Inkscape.

Well, I hate to say it but this is "greek to me"! Particularly, "Then, simply hit "Copy" and paste them into Inkscape." I'm just not familiar with this context. I know I'm backward, and I apologize for it. I'm just stuck on the idea of "Why can't Inkscape have a Symbol font?" MS paint has it! With that font, all you do is press a for alpha, b for beta, and et cetera. Very pleasing to us rubes. OTOH, I can appreciate that this may be difficult to provide for whatever reason. In that case maybe a few more details on the instructions for importing greek characters into Inkscape. I really am willing, and I thank you for your indulgence. Inkscape is a great thing, but it does take some getting used to!

It wasn't so hard after all.
