export bitmap dialog does not open

Using Inkscape 0.91 in UbuntStudio 1404, I have made dozens of drawings in Inkscape and exported at least 200 bitmap images (.png) over the past year.

Suddenly today the export bitmap dialog will not open : I've tried Shift-Ctrl E, clicking on the icon in the toolbar and the file dropdown menu. The export dialog does not appear.

Everything else seems to be ok.

I've tried on new files and also old files where it used to work ok.

Is there some simple alteration I could have made accidentally that interferes with exporting ?

Likely you unintentionally minimized the dialog into the dock of the main Inkscape window (by clicking on the small triangle in the dialog's own title bar). You should be able to find it minimized into a button on a vertical toolbar between the dock and the snap controls bar on the right side of the Inkscape main window; clicking on it will reopen the dialog again (menu command and the button on the commands bar won't).

Please report back whether this was the case.

Wow -- how stupid I feel !!! That was exactly the case. It really became invisible to me.

I was beginning to despair. I tried saving as 'Cairo png' but the resolution seems very limited.

I'm really glad to recover that situation.

Sorry for all the inconveniences bug #1270295 creates - you are by far not the only one experiencing this kind of issue with dockable dialogs: in Inkscape 0.91, finally all old-style floating-only dialogs have been refactored and are now dockable (among them the dialog with the bitmap export options), but apparently other dialog-related changes (to remember and restore dialog status from last session) introduced this unfortunate regression with dialogs minimized into the main window's dock (they don't "de-minimize" again with menu-, button- or keyboard-commands).
