pngs to emfs

Asked by Sharon

I am attempting to take png files - opening them in Inkscape and saving them as emf files. Is this possible? Every way that I have tried creates some error and the application closes down. I have icons that were created in "paint" and now I have been told they need to be emfs and I can't do that in paint. I am trying to avoid redrawing them.

Please help.
Thanks

EMF is a vector format that essentially consists of a binary dump of Windows GDI drawing commands. My bet is that saving embedded bitmaps (PNG is a raster/bitmap format) in EMFs is not yet implemented in Inkscape (and is pointless anyway, because embedding a bitmap in EMF does not magically vectorize). You will have to vectorize your icons either by redrawing or tracing them. The Paint Bucket tool available in 0.46 preview releases will be especially helpful.
