I can't figure out how to select part of a bitmap for a trace.

Asked by Dominique Scaief

I guess that my program isn't working, or I'm doing something wrong. I am just trying to isolate part of a bitmap and vectorize it. I select trace, set my options, and hit execute, but nothing happens. It doesn't put the trace on top of the image like it is supposed to. I wondered if it put it somewhere else, but it really seems to be doing nothing. Is it because I'm on a mac?

Also, the manual says to draw a "closed path" around what you are trying to select to use the SIOX tool. I can't even figure out how to draw an open path, much less a closed one. the select arrow tool only gives me a rectangular box that disappears when you are done clicking. no line. no path.

Please help.

You need to draw a closed path using the pen tool or the pencil tool and place it above the image, then select both the image and the path. You can do this while the Trace Bitmap dialog is open. Use Page Up and Page Down to adjust the z-order so that the path is above the image. Note that the path needs to be filled, though the fill can be semi-transparent.
