change picture to drawing with bold lines to follow

Asked by Tonia Craig

I want to take and import a portrait picture and be able to turn it in to a line drawing so that I can carve it out on leather. I can not figure out how I can get the program to do this for me. I am new to the inkscape itself. I hope there is a place or instructions for a step by step instructions on how to do this

Thanks for your time on this matter

The best way to find step by step instructions is to google for "how to trace bitmap using inkscape". Depending on your image tracing might never give you the results you want. In that case you just need to redraw the image yourself. Read http://inkscape.org/doc/basic/tutorial-basic.html first.
