All of my existing graphics are .cdr files. How do I install UniConverter 1.1.1

Asked by Ian Dewar

I have been using Corel 9 for many years now so my large archive of graphics which I copy and paste from regularly are all .cdr files.

I believe that installing UniConverter will allow me to open these files in Inkscape. Or is this only possible on a Ubuntu platform?

I have downloaded UniConverter 1.1.1 for Windows XP but cannot find an installation guide I can make sense of, or which appears safe to try as a non-technical PC user.

Can you please provide such installation instructions.

Best regards. Ian Dewar

The current version of Inkscape (0.48) ships with UniConvertor 1.1.5 included. There is no need for you to manually install it outside of Inkscape. You can open CDR files from within Inkscape (the CDR file is converted to SVG on-the-fly by calling UniConvertor in the background).

If you still want to have a separate copy installed, get the installer for 1.1.5 from the UniConvertor homepage:
<http://sk1project.org/modules.php?name=Products&product=uniconvertor>

UniConvertor also offers a support forum:

Thanks so much for your reply.

I have tried again to open a .cdr file in Inkscape and what is actually happening is that though the objects do open, the text in the graphics is not appearing. I should have thought to explain this better in my first request for help. Sorry about that.

Is there a solution to this problem.

Ian

AFAIK text is not yet (or only partially) supported in any available UniConvertor version, even though it was on the roadmap for UniCOnvertor 1.1.5. Please ask in the UniConvertor forum about the current state of CDR support and plans for future versions.

See also this message from the UniConvertor forum (posted on 14-09-2010):
«I was waiting for 1.1.5 release. According to road map cdr text import was annouced.
But it isn't.

I hope next release will include this feature.»

Text in CDR is not yet supported. This will be fixed later when internals of sK1 and UniConvertor are adjusted to implement this properly.
