missing items when saving ???

ive designed a few text with gradient fills, an outline and a dropped shadow, save it as normal, close the programme down. when i return to open the saved document, it opens but there is NO outline or dropped shadow on my designed text, just the gradient filled text ??? what am i doing wrong or is there sumthing that i should be doing before i save it ??

When you use filters (drop shadow), there is OFTEN a bug in Inkscape's current rendering/viewer. The filtered item on your canvas likely has the 'filtered' effects applied the problem may be that inkscape viewer is not rendering it correctly. To see if this is the issue simply select your filtered object(s) and use >Edit >Make a Bitmap Copy... (Alt+B). The effects you have applied should be part of the Bitmap copy.

There is an existing bug on this item you can find it, by searching under 'bugs'.

If this does not apply to your issue, you would likely need to provide the following..

>The source svg file you are using, we can look at the .xml code (>Edit >XML Editor...) to ensure the filters are part of the file.
  >www.imgh.us can be used to host your .svg file.
>What version of Inkscape are you using
>What Operating System and Version are you using
