Fix for graph on 22.04 LTS (Jammy) ??

Asked by David Cence

I've been using System Load Indicator on 20.04.3 LTS (Focal) and it worked great.

Now, I'm running 22.04 LTS (Jammy) and the best way I can describe the graph is it looks sort of compressed.

I went into preferences and that didn't help.

I installed Gnome Tweaks and Gnome Shell Extensions and then tried the appindicators extension but no luck.

Any help / ideas / work arounds / suggestions / alternatives are welcome!

Same here. It's the best tool to quickly visualize system activity and I know no other tool like that.
I hope they get an answer to that.

Same problem in my installation.
This prevents me from using Ubuntu 22.04 - I still stay at 20.04 with my computers.

Is there anyone to help with this problem ?
(Last version of system-load-indicator is rather old ...)

Hey Krueger.
Mine is all well now. Last week, an update pops up, then I tried to reinstall the multiload indicator and it worked right away.
Must be something in the update.
Cheers.

Hi, Ed,

hopefully I tested my (virtualbox) installation: sudo apt update / upgrade (about 100 packages updated), then sudo apt install indicator-multiload - and just the same behaviour: When starting the program Gnome freezes - only <ctrl><alt><del> takes you back to login-screen, then login via "Ubuntu with Xorg", but there also Gnome freezes, but I'm still able to switch to console via <ctrl><alt><F3>. Then login, sudo apt purge indicator-multiload, sudo reboot to save the installation.
After this everything works fine with Xorg and with Wayland - but without indicator-multiload.

There is something in indicator-multiload that crashes the new Gnome-Version that comes with Ubuntu 22.04 ...

Can anybody help, please !!

Martin

unfortunately one year later - still the same issue with 22.04

For the moment I moved to use the gnome extension TopHat - but I find better the colors of this extension here. Would be great if it can be fixed.

Thanks @eddyjuillerat - system-monitor-next has good configuration including colors and width, is working perfect.

I believe the trouble comes in Ubuntu 22.04 with the GNOME theme which limits the area available to display for all app indicators to a smaller height and rounded side borders.

When the graph hit this borders constrains then a flicker occurs ...

GNOME extensions may know about that new limitations, however this is curtailing the pool of available app indicators. It would be nice to GNOME teams to let alone the square area dedicated to app indicators ...

Can you help with this problem?
