The old applet allowed you to select the frequency for each core (or CPU),
so in a dual core computer, one would have two icons, one for each core.
Does this indicator affect all cores/CPUs (i.e., do they have all the same frequency)?
If not, how do I select the core/CPU?

All cores are affected by the setting currently, and the bug is planning on implementing separate settings for each core, apparently.
