In iHRIS Manage, a job is defined as a general set of qualifications, duties and responsibilities that one person performs in the organization. Each job has a title, code and description.

A job may be categorized by any of the following:

    * Cadre: a category of health professionals who work for the organization

    * Job classification: a standard job category and code that may or may not include health professionals

    * Salary grade: a grade of pay for a job

All of these categorizations are optional. They are intended to organize jobs and track and report on data in ways that are meaningful for your organization.

There may be multiple instances of the same job. Each instance, which is filled by a single employee performing that job function, is called a position. The position may have the same title as the job, or it may have an additional position title.

Please see the User's Manual (Help) for more information.

Clarification on the difference between cadre and classification:

The important thing to keep in mind is that cadre is intended to be for health professions only. Classification is intended to include health professions and other non-health fields, such as secretaries, guards, administrators, accountants, etc. Therefore, some classifications may be the same as cadre, i.e., Nurse. And some jobs may not have a cadre, because they are non-health jobs.

Check some of the jobs in the demo version of Manage for examples (http://hris.capacityproject.org/iHRIS/Manage/). For example, the job Accountant has a classification of Non-Health Professional and no cadre. The job Chief Nurse has a classification and a cadre of Nurse.

By distinguishing between classification and cadre, you can run reports on just health professionals (cadre) or on all jobs (classification). If the classification field conforms to ISCO standards, you can also compare job data to other areas using the same standards.
