Duplex scanning ScanTWAIN

Asked by Paul_M

According to het Knowledge Base and FAQ - Duplex scanning is still not supported. In my case for my HP OfficeJet Pro L7780.

Is there a possibility that HPLIP wil incorportate the ScanTWAIN drivers for HP printers as Kodak did ?

Below is my output of hp-check -t

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Unfortunately, this printer model does duplex printing but not duplex scanning:

Sorry, forgot to mention: the only All-in-One that HP sells right now that does feature duplex scanning is the Photosmart Premium Fax.

@ Andrew,

My OfficeJet Pro L7780 (with ADF) is fully capable of Duplex scanning & Printing, only not in Linux.

As workaround I do my scanning via VM player (win XP) with the TWAIN drivers for my All-in-one printer, scanner, fax. Further I have set up a shared file to my server so the scanned files are accessible from within my Ubuntu client. Not the best solution but for now it works.

After reading about ScanTWAIN and that Kodak made Duplex scanning available for (some) of theire scanners I was wondering if HP wil follow as wel. It would be much appreciated if Duplex scanning would be made easely usable from within a linux GUI.

Kind regards
Paul

Thank you for setting me straight on this. My statement was based on the printer specifications documents on the HP website. Turns out these are incomplete.

You'll be interested in this bug report page. One user posted a patch for duplex scanning which he developed for his Officejet L series unit.

Thanks Andrew,

I will give it a try.

It probably will take a while as my technical knowledge of linux an programming is more that of a poweruser instead of a administrator.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Paul_M for more information if necessary.
