Instsall didn't install.

Asked by Bob

I am trying to install hplip in ubuntu 9.04.

I install it using applications/add-remove. it seems to go through the install alright. I open system/preferences and the hplip icon is there but when I click on it nothing happens.

I can go to my home folder and find the hplip folder there but the only thing inside is a hplip-config file. It is just an empty page when I open it.

I did try installing the downloaded 3.9.10run file but it didn't detect one of my installed printers and I am not sure if pieces of it are still installed somewhere.

The printers seem to work just fine in cups but I can't use the scanner on my c4680 without hplip.

Thanks for any help. Bob.

The file hplip-3.9.10.run installs hplip. if that is done, you have a programm named hp-setup in your program-folder. Just start it as root:

hp-setup

This program detects and installs your printer(s)/scanner(s) and not the 3.9.10.run-file from above. Have a lokk here:

That is exactly what I did and it installed with errors. It did not work. So I tried the Ubuntu method and it wouldn't work either.

As I said: I can go to my home folder and find the hplip folder there but the only thing inside is a hplip-config file. It is just an empty page when I open it.

Where else would it have installed files? How do I make sure it is completely removed so I can try to install it again? Do you think this might help?

Thanks, Bob.

Is it a 32 bit or 64 bit system? Please run the below command and post it here:

ls -l /usr/lib/libhpmud*

Incase no files are listed than it could be installation problem.

Thanks,

A

32 bit.

What would I do then?
Re-install?
Delete hplip files/folders and then re-install?

Hi,

HPLIP files get installed into various directories appropriately. You can check the config file /etc/hp/hplip.conf to see which components are installed under which directories.

Are you able to run hp-toolbox and see the entries for the printers you have configured? If not, I suggest you to cleanup your HPLIP installation and install HPLIP 3.9.10 again.

Regards,
Suma
