unable to add Deskjet f4280

I am running Fedora 11.

I installed HPLIP through Yum and ran the hp-setup tool from the start menu in KDE (I am running KDE version of Fedora).

When I try to add my Deskjet 4280 it gets to the last screen and then says unable to create print queue please restart CUPS and try again. I restarted CUPS and it did not help. I ran hp-check and did all the dependancy requirements it came up with but it did not help. HP-check still gives a dependacy error but I run it and it keeps coming back.

Hi reXem -

It looks like you've got both an hpijs and hpcups install. This may be what's confusing the setup tool. Navigate to the unpacked tarball (usually ~/Desktop/hplip-3.9.8) and run the following commands:

su -c "make clean"

./configure --with-hpppddir=/usr/share/ppd/HP --prefix=/usr --enable-qt4 --enable-doc-build --disable-cups-ppd-install --disable-foomatic-drv-install --disable-foomatic-ppd-install --disable-hpijs-install --enable-policykit --enable-cups-drv-install --enable-hpcups-install --enable-network-build --enable-dbus-build --enable-scan-build --enable-fax-build

su -c "make"
su -c "make install"

This should resolve the issue you're seeing. Thank you for supporting HPLIP.

Hi Linus,

I tried these steps and it still gives me the same error when I run
hp-setup. It still tells me:

Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.

I tried removing hpijs and redoing your instructions and it still came
up same error.

Can you run hp-check -t and post your results again? You may have to remove the previous hplip install completely, but first, I'd like to take a look at the state of your system.

Ans as I said before I run that dependency command and everything is
installed and up to date so I am not sure why it keeps telling me to
install cupsddk

Can you run the following command:

su -c "tail -f /var/log/messages"

Then run hp-setup in a different terminal. Copy the output from the tail command I had you run in a separate terminal, and post it here.

Thank you for all your help. I did check that cups log myself while waiting
for a reply here and actually no error comes up in it. I have however solved
my issue. I got rid of fedora and installed mandriva. With a little effort
everything is working ( oddly enough mandriva had some.issues too but it was
dependency not installing. Got it all figured tho) thanks again.
