Unable to make driver hplip work for hplj 2430dn
Using Ubuntu 9.04 with hp laserjet 2430dtn, unable to configure hplip driver to work (Device communication error. Device is busy.) Can't print test page. Printer can print "hp LaserJet 2430 printers" self-diagnosis sheets, though, so the printer is ready.

I have tried using Synaptic Package Manager to add every hplip, gutenprint or postscript file I can find. Still no joy.

Now I'm not even able to get my hp lj 1100 to find its driver, although it was printing fine before I hooked up the 2430!

Aaron,
Do you think think this might work with my problem?
Okay, so it seems that it finally works with the HP backend. Once I upgraded CUPS server from 1.3.x to 1.4.1 and re-added the printer through the CUPS web interface, it started to work fine. I don't know for sure if the upgrade was really relevant, because I haven't tried it in a while.
If so, how do I upgrade my CUPS server and re-add my printer through the CUPS web interface?
Thanks,
Larry

Is there a way to track what "Device is busy: Untitled1 (larry /370)" means?

The error message alternates between (larry/370) and (larry/394). What do the numbers 370 and 394 represent?
Revision history for this message

OK, I see: For 394, the message states, "Device communication error: Untitled1 (larry/394)
For 370, it states, "Device is busy: Untitled1 (larry/370)
A slight difference, but specifically what do the numbers reveal? Is there an hp error message manual that interprets the meaning of error message numbers?

It seems that the numbers represent job numbers in the print que.
When I put the pointer over the printer icon in the panel, I get the error message:
"Printer 'hp_Laserjet_
Now that I have run all the suggested troubleshooting commands, I will try re-running hp-check again.

Those (394 and 395 files) should be very very small. The keyboard input was simply "test", yet they have more bytes than the test page.

Aaron,
I have the hplip-3.9.8.run file downloaded to my desktop. How do I extract it?
I have this printer on a 30-day trial. Before that time ends, I either have to get it working or return it for a trade. I've got about 10 days left before that deadline.

Sorry for inconvenience caused due to this.
Since you have already returned the printer, so I guess I have nothing to help you out.
Thanks for your support to HPLIP.
Naga Samrat.
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask Larry Meadows for more information if necessary.
