HP officejet 5510 how to install correctly?
Hi
I have just installed Ubuntu 9.04 for the first time.
I checked prior to installation that my HP officejet all in one 5510 was compatible.
I'm sure that this is a simple task to set up this printer/scanner but as I am very new I could do with some help please.
I tried:
1. To set up the 5510 from system-
2. I then tried some of the other options within the printer configuration but no test prints printed.
3. I tried to download the newer version of HPLIP (following links from documentation to the HP site). Did the download. Followed the instructions on how to install this (open terminal type in cd terminal then type in sh hplip-3.9.6run to install HPLIP. This did not work. I got the line
sh: Can't open hplip-3.9.6run
4. I also tried disconnecting the printer and reconnecting in case this helped ubuntu recognise it. This made no difference.
As I am very new I don't really understand the terminal much but I am sure I copied the command line correctly. Also from what I have read Ubuntu 9.04 already includes correct drivers for my printer to work without me needing to (yet) understand the command lines. So I think there is something very simple that I am doing incorrectly.
I hope I have provided enough info here to gain an answer. Thanks.
