HPLIP

Unable to install HPLIP 3.22.10 on Kubuntu 22.04

I am trying to install HPLIP 3.22.10 onto a Kubuntu 22.04 system after recently purchasing a HP Laserjet Pro M405dn printer. We have a mix of Windows and Linux computers, and the driver install completed successfully on our windows machines.

However, on the first Kubuntu machine, hplip-3.22.10.run is stalled at this point:

   DEPENDENCY AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION
   ----------------------------------
   Running 'sudo apt-get install --assume-yes libjpeg-dev'
   Please wait, this may take several minutes ...

It has been at this point for a couple of hours now. I am hesitant to stop the install process as I don't know what damage it may cause to my system.

Should I have removed the older version of hplip first? Can I stop the install process and restart it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Of course you can stop the installation process. The only effect may be that you end up with HPLIP only half installed and not working. It should then be possible to repair this with a new installation attempt of HPLIP.

Remarks:
Is there a specific reason that you try installing the version from the HP web pages instead of the adapted packages from the Ubuntu repositories, which should not exhibit such installation problem? ("sudo apt install hplip-gui")
You might try installing the dependency beforehand "sudo apt install libjpeg-dev"

Thanks for that.

I didn't try to install the package in the repositories because I simply forgot the hplip package was there. I have now stopped the stalled installation and will try reinstalling from the repository.

In the end, I didn't attempt to reinstall HPLIP 3.22.10 via the repositories, as my existing HPLIP installation (3.21.12) drives our new printer just fine. So I will run with that for now and allow HPLIP to update as/when it needs.
