HP device Manager is not launching (hplip-3.22.10.run)

Asked by Fred P

Hello,
I used HPLIP in a previous installation of LM 20.3 but I had to install the OS new.
I downloaded and installed HPLIP.3.22.10.run but when I'm launching it from the menu it doesn't start.

I then downloaded hplip.3.22.10-plugin.run but when I try to execute it (sh ./splip-3.22.10-plugin.run) it shows the message
<<<
fred@Ryzen3-3200:~/Downloads$ sh ./hplip-3.22.10-plugin.run
Verifying archive integrity... 100% All good.
Uncompressing HPLIP 3.22.10 Plugin Self Extracting Archive 100%
Error importing HPLIP modules. Is HPLIP installed?
>>>
and it quits the script.

What did I do wrong?
Any help available?
TIA

"Error importing HPLIP modules. Is HPLIP installed?"

You did the second step before the first one. You have to start by installing HPLIP and add the HPLIP-plugin only afterwards.
Apparently the attempted installation of HPLIP failed.

Try again:

sh ./hplip-3.22.10.run
sh ./hplip-3.22.10-plugin.run

Another option is installing the adapted hplip packages from the Ubuntu repositories and then adding the pluging run file in the same version as the hplip packages.

Hi Manfred

Thanks for your quick reply.

During my 1st installation I run <hplip3.22.10-plugin.run> after the script <hplip-3.22.10.run> .

Today, I executed the script command <sh ./hplip3.22.10.run> again.
It removed the 'previous' version 'hplip.3.22.10' before installing it.
As part of process, it added my printer 'MFP M1536'.
After the completion of the script I had the "HP" icon in my panel.
I selected it and it opened properly "once".
When I selected it again the window didn't show up. - no additional message appeared.
I then run the script for the plugins. It started it but ended it immediately (I guess it identified that the the plugin were already installed).

I'm now in the same situation as before.
I have no clue why it's not installing properly were it run smoothly in my previous version of Mint 20.3.

Is there a log somewhere that I could upload?

Thanks for your help.

(I guess it identified that the the plugin were already installed).

Did you get any message telling why it immediately ended (instead of just guessing something)?

Manfred,

No messages, otherwise I would have posted them. :-)

How can I uninstall hplip?

Dankeschön

Manfred,

without making any further changes to the system (except a kernel update last night) ,
the HPLIP status service (in the panel) is now opening properly and I can select the options within.

Thank you
