HPLIP

Can't install hplip v 3.20.3 on Ubuntu 20.04

Ubuntu 20.04 release shows up as unsupported and does not work. Ubuntu 20.04 has removed support for Python 2 and it appears that hplip 3.20.3 has dependancies on on Python 2. I can't get my printer/scanning working any longer since I upgraded from Ubuntu 19.10. How do I get my LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdw working again?

To expand on that a bit, sane-airscan solved the scanning, I just select the Airscan device and it works. Yea.

I'm still reading the CUPS Driverless Printing document and it's clear that my printer should work with it, and perhaps Ubuntu is using that since the printer is working, the scanner was not and does now.

Good. Note that sane-airscan does not use anything of HPLIP.

Ubuntu is probably setting up printing automatically with cups-browsed. If
you stopped it (systemctl stop cups-browsed), printing would disappear.
Note that HPLIP is not involved here either.

Actually, David, Ubuntu 20.04 is supposed to make scanning automatically
available with sane-escl. Apparently this did not happen with you.
