setting up DJ3000 as network printer get this error: "An I/O error occurred. Please check the USB connection to your printer and try again. (Device I/O error)"

using HPLIP for setting up Wifi on Deskjet 3000 I get this error even though the USB connection is good: "An I/O error occurred.
Please check the USB connection to your printer and try again.
(Device I/O error)"
The program sees the printer as a network printer and It should continue on when I press NEXT. Instead I get this error.
