Using dual boot; cannot find grub menu after updating to Windows 10

Asked by Edmond Condillac

Just updated dual boot (Windows 8.1 & Ubuntu 14.04) to Windows 10. Now the machine boots into Windows 10 only and skips showing the grub menu, which defaulted into booting into Ubuntu with Windows as an option.
In Windows File Explorer the size of the Windows partition is shown. The Ubuntu partition is there based on the disk capacity.

Is there any way to revert to booting from the grub menu option into Ubuntu, please?

I've tried using the Boot Repair disk, but the system now boots into Windows 10 although I've changed the boot options in BIOS to boot from DVD/CD ROM.

Apparently the Windows 10 upgrade has overwritten grub's master boot record with the Windows MBR.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows gives instructions that usually should work.

If this does not work, please upload the output of boot-repair to the web, and we will try to help further.
