HOWTO Print Fax Cover Page

Asked by John Miller

I recently began using the HP Device Manager to send faxes on my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw. Everything works great and I'm much appreciative for the quality of the software.

My practice is to send fax cover sheets with my outbound faxes. I almost always include a message within the cover sheet, and would like very much to be able to print the cover sheets for my files. I did a search of Help and didn't see anything on-point, but that doesn't mean there isn't an answer there - or somewhere else.

If anyone can let me know if this is possible and how to print cover sheets, I'd be forever in your debt. If not, I'll at least know the answer and be disappointed. :-(

Thanks, mojohn

Running most current HP Device Manager on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Hello,

Cover Page support is provided for outbound fax in HPLIP. When you click "Send Fax" in HP Device Manager (as an alternate you can invoke hp-sendfax program), the first window which opens is the coverpage window ("Select and Edit Fax CoverPage (Optional)" window ). It supports multiple templates like Basic, Confidential, Urgent, etc. You can also provide your own title and message to be included in the cover page using the same window.

If you are not seeing this window, it is likely that reportlab package is missing on your system. You can install the same using
sudo apt-get install python-reportlab

(or sudo apt-get install python3-reportlab if you are using python 3.x version).

Suma

Suma, thank you for your answer. However, that isn't my problem. I'm getting the dialog to create a fax cover page. What I need is the ability to have the text of the cover page print from the printer along with the confirmation that the fax was delivered.

Thank you.

Hello,

Sorry, that is not supported by HPLIP driver.
