hp-setup can't find HP Officejet Pro 8610 Printer on Network (Trusty)

Asked by Ben Stanley

Operating system: Ubuntu 14.04.2 "trusty"

hplip: 3.14.3 (installed from Ubuntu)

Printer: HP Officejet Pro 8610

The printer is connected by a network.

I have configured the printer IP address by DHCP to a fixed address, and I can ping it by name.

I have configured the printer to be able to print via cups, using both DNS-SD and by name.

I wish to configure the scanner function. It appears I must run hp-setup to do this. When I run hp-setup, it cannot find the printer.

In the Device Discovery page (http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/hp_setup.html),
I select Network

Leaving the Advanced button alone, hp-setup says "No Devices Found".

In the Advanced section, I have tried:
1) Discovery by SLP
2) Discovery by mDNS/Bonjour
3) Discovery by Avahi
4) Manual discovery, using the printer name (as tested by ping).
In all of these tests, hp-setup tells me "No Devices Found".

I need hp-setup to find the printer so that I can configure scanning.

How can I convince hp-setup to find my printer? cups didn't have any trouble!

Hi,

The minimum version of HPLIP required for your device to work is 3.14.4. Please update your hplip from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html

Details of your device can be found at,
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/officejet/hp_officejet_pro_8610.html

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards
