Is HPLIP compiled with SSE or SSE2 ?

Asked by Ted ball

I use a PIII which has SEE and therefore any thing compiled with SSE2 is usless.
I have a HP725 Office Jet that works perfectly with Mandriva 2007 and the HP printer drivers etc.
that came with it.
I now use Mageia 3 which is the latest updated version of the "free veersion" of Mandriva's sucessors, HP5510, and 5610 USB printers work but a look at the CUPS log shows red lines for them and the HP725 just seems to be "missing"
The HP725 is found and listed in the display but shows it disconnected, trying to fix this just causes the setup program to hang with the display remaining on the screen until a reboot occurs. The status display says "communication error".
Is this HPLIP related or CUPS related.
If the problem is SSE what is the latest version of HPLIP / CUPS that I can use???

Regards, Ted.

Hi Ted,

Please follow the instructions provide at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/mandriva.html to install latest HPLIP 3.13.8 in your system.

Let us know if the issue still persists.

Thanks,
Goutam

I tried this and after I loaded the missing files required by the scripts the scripts seemed to run without errors, however the MAKE step failed ( NOT in a root shell ) with Error 1 "failed to create .libs."
Note: Mageia3 is a systemd-based OS which is different than the earlier Mandriva distributions it is based upon.
Doing a "systemctl" lists everything in the way of hardware including the HP5510 and 5610 but there is no entry for the HP725 despite fact that the HP printer setup window shows it is found, but disconnected with the "communication error" The Mageia 3 HPLIP which is installed is version 3.12.9.

Regards,
  Ted.

I have not received an answer to my original questions regarding the
compiling of HPLIP/CUPS with SSE or SSE2. This is important as PIII
processors or earlier can not work with programs compiled with SSE2.
Installing the latest HPLIP version is of no value if compiled with the
"wrong for PIII" version of SEE.
Thanks for an answer to my question,
Regards,
Ted.

Hi,
I still have no answer to this question despite it being a simple one.
Whom ever compiles the executable portions of the program must
know what set of processor instructions he/she is using for the compile.
Thanks for a reply,
  Ted

No, HPLIP components are not compiled using SSE. We do not know about CUPS as we do not own that software.

If you have followed the steps suggested in comment#1 above, you can see the compile/link lines by running "make -n". Also, you can customize Makefile according to your environment needs.

Hope this helps!
