hplip-3.13.5.run missing dependencies ubuntu 12.04

sh hplipp-3.13.5.run and 3.13.2 both report : warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: cups-devel (CUPS devel- Common Unix Printing System development files)
warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: cups-image (CUPS image - CUPS image development files)

I tried to install "cups-dev" via synaptic and failed with unresolvable dependencies. I have suceeded installing on ubuntu 13.04 but do not want to upgrade this12.04 partition.

Please advise....thanks, dan.

Please check that synaptic package manager is pointing to all the repos correctly. Check below steps.
1)Run 'sudo synaptic' command in the terminal.
2)Click on Settings->Repositories and enable repos in Ubuntu software tab.
3)Now try to install HPLIP 3.13.5
