Printer installs via USB, but get error for wireless

Asked by chunnel

I have OpenSuse 11.4 and an OfficeJet Pro 8500A Premium.
I have run the install several times where you have to plug in the USB temporarily and then it should prompt for wireless. However, it never does. I have installed hplip-3.11.10.run. I always get an I/O error message after the USB install finishes and it tells me that there is a wireless connection available and I click next. The printer works via USB.

When I run 'hp-check -t' I get the following error message.

bryan@linux-mb4w:~> 'hp-check -t'
If 'hp-check -t' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:
    cnf hp-check -t

I have successfully installed the printer via wireless from CUPS. However, it doesn't show in my HP Device Manager despite hitting refresh all.

However, it does show up in my Printers and I can print wirelessly. Is this normal? It's all a bit bizarre coming from Windows.

Can you please try the following steps to configure the device on wireless.

1. Execute "hp-setup" to setup device.
2. Select "Network/Ethernet/Wireless Network (Direct Connection..)" option under "Connection IO Types"
3. Click on the "Show Advanced option" button.
4. Select "Manual Discovery" check-box.
5. Enter the IP Address of the device and click on the Next button.
6. Continue the setup complete the configuration.

Please let us know, if the problem still persists.

Thanks for using HPLIP.

Hi chunnel

There is a space between hp-check and -t i.e. 'hp-check -t'. Otherwise you can just run 'hp-check' and paste the output here.
