hp officejet 4105 - detection problem

Asked by I.Fekete

Hi!

I have ubuntu 7.10 and tried to install hplip for my 4105 all-in-one officejet (which is supported by hplip).

My problem is that hplip does not detect my printer automatically (and it does not work even after manual setup).

I tried to install hplip, but the software did not recognized my printer automatically. So I used the cups web interface and added my printer with the hp cups backend. After that the printer showed up in the hp device managers' device list but with the following error message: "No device found or unsupported device". I checked the list of supported devices and it is fully supported.

I tried to set up my printer manually via the device manager itself so I added the usb port and device ID and it seemed to recognize my printer. But after finishing the process the "printer is busy, offline or in error state" message showed up. So I printed a test page from the cups web interface and everything was fine. I thought there could be some problem with the device itself, but using windows all other functions (fax&scan) are working properly.

I think ubuntu first installed the 2.7.7 hplip, I tried to install the 2.7.10 using the self extracting package and than (it was not working) I went through the steps of the manual installation. No luck.

Do you have any idea what the problem could be and how to solve it?
Thanks in advance!

Please find attached the log.

I made it a week or two ago (since than I tried to solve the problem
on my own and screwed up the system a little bit, so I will have to
reinstall the entire ubuntu - I'm a real newbie)

Thanks!

You will find it here: http://pastebin.com/m7dbbf66d

I reinstalled ubuntu and now cannot run hp-check - do you have any
idea why? What did I forget to setup this time?

Best regards,
Istvan

You may need to re-install the latest HPLIP, Ubuntu may have disabled some hplip tools for their package. Although there may be a problem in the code that's preventing your printer from working. I'm checking on this now.

Edit the file:

/usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat

Add this below the officejet_4100_series section:

[officejet_4105_series]
align-type=6
clean-type=2
color-cal-type=0
copy-type=0
embedded-server-type=0
fax-type=1
fw-download=0
icon=officejet_4200_series.png
io-mfp-mode=6
io-mode=1
io-support=2
linefeed-cal-type=0
model1=Officejet 4100 series
model2=Officejet 4105 All-in-One
model3=Officejet 4110 All-in-One
model4=Officejet 4110v All-in-One
model5=Officejet 4110xi All-in-One
panel-check-type=1
pcard-type=0
plugin=0
plugin-library=
pq-diag-type=0
r-type=0
r0-agent1-kind=3
r0-agent1-sku=56 (C6656AN)
r0-agent1-type=1
r0-agent2-kind=3
r0-agent2-sku=57 (C6657AN)/28 (C8728AN)
r0-agent2-type=2
scan-style=2
scan-type=1
status-battery-check=0
status-dynamic-counters=0
status-type=2
support-released=1
support-type=2
support-ver=0.9.5
tech-class=DJ3320
tech-type=2
usb-pid=3111
usb-vid=03f0

Make sure to keep the spacing and format the same, then delete the printer and re-add it. Hopefully this should take care of it.

My bad.

Dear Aaron,

I have edited the file as you wrote and the device manager recognized my printer properly. Scanning and printing both work fine (cannot test the fax because I have no phone-line right now).
Thank you so much for your help. Now I am able to abandon the good old windows completely.

Best regards,
Istvan
