I also get error 5012 when I try to install hplip 3.11.5. the following is my summary of hp-check -t
-------
dick@dick:~$ hp-check -t
HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.11.5)
Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.3

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Hi,
Can you provide us some more debug information.
Please follow the below steps to provide the same
1.Open the file /etc/cups/
$sudo vim /etc/cups/
Change LogLevel warn to LogLevel debug and below that line add HPLogLevel 15. Like this
LogLevel debug
hpLogLevel 15
2. Restart the cups
$sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart
3. Enter the hplip source folder and open the file io/hpmud/hpmudi.h and uncomment the line containing this
//#define HPMUD_DEBUG and save it.
4.Open the terminal and change directory to hplip source directory and run "make" and su -c "make install" .
5.make the log file empty
$sudo cat /dev/null > /var/log/syslog
6. Send a small document for print.
7 When you get the "Device communication error" . Copy the contents of log file in text file and attach me that file
$sudo cat /var/log/syslog > debug.txt"
Attach me the debug.txt file.
Sorry for having you to do so much of work. Please let us know if you find any difficulty in obtaining the debug information.
Thanks & Regards,
Goutam Kodu
