After upgrade to Karmic my HP deskjet F2480 not found

Asked by Allen Retter

I have just upgraded to Karmic and during this process the HPlip software was also upgraded. My printer is a HPF2480 is no longer listed. The printer has been working ok but I am using refilled cartridges which much are cheaper. The level detection has never worked with a refilled cartridge but I live with this due to economy. HPlip auto detection does not find my printer and the help file states that the printer must be working and cartridges not empty. Does this mean that I have to buy 2 new HP propriety cartridges before the printer is detected.

Also HP don't prefer refilled cartridges, the printer detection is not depends on that.
You must be able to find your printer with refilled cartridges too.

Have you checked the connection between the printer, and the computer?
Are you using the newest HPLIP version? (If not, try to install it from hplip.net)
Could you provide more information about the system and printer? (Eg: connection type, error logs, hplip version)

Hi,

If you installed HPLIP manually before upgrading and then did the upgrade, you have to reinstall HPLIP for it to work correctly again.

Please use http://hplipopensource.com/node/188 to unistall HPLIP and reinstall it again

If you probelm is not solved after this post the result of 'hp-check -t' here.

Thanks and Regards
