Have you installed the custom driver for it?

http://www.openprinting.org/printer/HP/HP-LaserJet_1020

foo2zjs - It's recommended that you get it from the source mentioned on the above page. Works for me for several years and versions.

BTW, these HP printers have no restart button for after a paper jam, etc., but if you just lift the lid where the cartridge goes and let it close again, it resumes like a charm.

Thank you for help.
I already installed this driver when I has has this problem but I solved it like this: On Windows I tried to print, failed and restarted the printer; then turned off the printer, then turned of the PC; then start initially the printer and after that start the PC. All is going fine now. Please close this question. Many thanks for help anyway.

Thanks for help.
I have debugging the printer using Windows operatin system; then turned off the printer, turned off the computer, restart the printer firstly then the computer on Ubuntu and the firmware was loaded corectly and the printer worked fine. I understand that, in order to work the printer, it must be started before the start of computer. Probably, when I have experienced the problem with this printer, it was blocked (when in Ubuntu one page was sent, the printer did not answer at all and the message: "connection with printer failed" or error 1018 appears). Thank you for this method to resume the printer.

One last note. I start my printer whenever I get around to it. If I try to print to it before it's turned on, CUPS usually has a problem and won't print to it. To fix this, I go into CUPS http://localhost:631 in my browser. I select printers and then the HP1020. On the HP1020 page, I select maintenance, pause printer and then, when it's done, maintenance, resume printer. This usually gets everything working without powering down or rebooting anything.

Glad your printer works for you.

Joe
