Plugin install fails for HP LJ P1005 in Kubuntu 10.04

Asked by Pavils Jurjans

Hi,

I can't get my P1005 make printing. The printer is visible in the HP Device Manager, but under the Actions panel it says "Install Required Plugin" there. When I click on it and go the automatic route, it says "plug-in install failed" right after the licence confirmation dialogue.

I noticed in other site that I can run the plugin install with debug option: hp-plugin -ldebug

So, here's the log I get (only the relevant last lines):

The plugin install fails also if run under sudo.

Any ideas what's happening here? Thanks!

After upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 all Qt-based applications starting complaining -

QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/castalia/.config/ibus/bus
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

Providing ~/.config/ibus/bus eliminates the first two lines of the error message, but the underlying problem of the ibus-daemon remains. The ibus-daemon can be started using the ibus-setup utility.

Note: On the system I use the ibus-daeim is not automatically started. It must be restarted manually.

Hi,
Did you try "sudo hp-plugin -i" from a terminal?
I think I had a luck with that command from the terminal as the propitery firmware displays confirmation which is causing this error I suppose

Hi,

Plugins for HPLIP are uploaded at http://www.openprinting.org website, which is unfortunately down due to an unexpected issue. Since the webserver is not available, installation of plugins is failing. We will get back to you once we make alternative arrangements for accessing the plugins.

Thanks,
Sarbeswar Meher

Hi,

Please download hplip-3.11.7.run file from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html. Install it using "sh hplip-3.11.7.run" in commandline.

Please find the plugin for HPLIP-3.11.7 at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/plugin_download.html. Now input "sh hplip-3.11.7-plugin.run" in the terminal to install the plugin.

Remove the existing queues from the machine. Connect the printer to the host and run "hp-setup".

Once setup is complete, you can try print/scan operation in the printer.

Let us know your feedback.

Thanks,
Sarbeswar Meher

Thanks for your suggestions Sarbeswar. Unfortunately I have had no luck whatsoever.

I have even tried updating to fedora 15 in desperation but no luck with the printer there either.

Strangely although i have downloaded the plugin twice the konsole claims that it is unable to find it although i can see it in the directory.

I am in that directory when I try it .

Further to my reply to you yesterday Sabeswar I have discovered that the plugin download is a tar ball and the command to unpack it listed in the instructions does not work but returns a reply of "command not found".

Any further suggestions???

Kevan

Sabeswar I am very pleased to report that I have finally made my HP p1005 printer work on Fedora 15.

To extract the plugin tarball after downloading from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/plugin_download.html

The extract command as listed "tar -zxvf hplip-3.11.7.plugin.tar" does not work. However the command "tar -xf hplip-3.11.7.plugin.tar" will extract the tarball.

To install use the command su -c "sh hplip-3.11.7-plugin.run" Not as you suggested "sh hplip-3.11.7.run"

The rest of the procedure is as you suggested.

Thank you for your help in this & I hope that this will assist others who are having problems.

Regards

Kevan Gray
