Getting "... Conflicted Copy ..." of files

Asked by Rob D

I keep getting copies made of my files, even though they are saved properly and Homebank application is closed down properly. When I restart my machine and go to load my data again I see two files. One with the filename I have chose and the other mentioning the filename then in brackets "(computername's conflicted copy [DATE]".

Each time the conflicted copy version is a much larger file and contains my most recent transactions/entries (at least I hope it does).

When things like this happen, it knocks one's confidence in the program, which seems otherwise great. But the fear of data-loss is rising in me and my confidence is dropping that the program checks properly so it doesn't lose my data.

HI Maxine,

I have HomeBank installed on both Windows and Ubuntu. I have a dual-boot machine.

I am happy to share a screenshot privately, but the filenames reference me, so probably not a good idea to do it publicly.

The main thing is that they show "conflicted copy" and produce a new file with that name, which is actually the last file that I worked on.

It could be something like file rights I guess, where the app goes to save the latest file (on app shutdown for instance) and sees that there is already a file with the name, so saves as "xxxx conflicted copy xxxx"

I still see this problem from time to time and think it might be to do with where I have my data stored.

Currently, my XHB files are in a Homebank folder under Dropbox, so it could be something to do with the Dropbox ssynchronisation.

what is sure is that HomeBank do not create this file.

Can you help with this problem?
