Update of PPA for Homebank 5.1.8 and future versions

I'm not sure what the policy for updating the PPA is, but I will say that it is VERY important that Homebank sticks to the mission of ease of use. And that means ease of installation.

When I was selecting a package, I compared Homebank, GNUcash and KMyMoney. GNUcash seemed too complicated, but everything gave a 'feeling' of reliability and robustness.

KMyMoney seemed like a great package, but I gave up because it seemed too difficult to install. I'm a recent concert from Windows to Ubuntu and it strikes me that Ubuntu/Linux developers really need to get their act together when it comes to making things easy for us newbies transitioning.

Not all of us know how to compile from source code, or even want to. Crazy thing is that KMyMoney installed easier on Windows, but for Ubuntu, I gave up trying to understand how I went from a thing called a Tarball to just getting the damned program working on my computer.

Homebank won out, because it seemed easy to operate and also installed easy in both Windows and from the Ubuntu Software Centre. One click and it was done.

Keep up the good work and go for robustness, reliability and ease of use over features every time!

Agreed. KMyMoney is a good program but I have no wish to add so may KDE dependencies to my GNOME/Gtk based Linux installations. I've finally worked out how GnuCash can work for me but it doesn't have the simplicity of Homebank. Homebank is currently the only personal finance application that I *really* want to use.

The current Ubuntu release, whatever that might be at the time, will always include at some point in its lifetime an out of date Homebank release as will Debian on which Ubuntu is based. That is the reason for my question to Homebank's developer, Maxime Doyen.
