I'd like links to be opened in Galeon instead that in Firefox: how to ?

Asked by cato

The summary says all.

If I click on one of the issues in the Gwibber main window, I get Firefox called in order to open that page.

I'd love to have Galeon called instead.

How do I manage to convince Gwibber to call Galeon ?

Thanks

Hi Cato

Assuming Gwibber will follow your preferred application setting, you need to change that setting in your prefered applications which is found under the system menu, go then -> preferences -> prefered applications. Under the internet tab, choose Galeon.

Note however that this will affect opening links over your whole desktop and not just gwibber.

Doesn't work in Xubuntu. I have firefox-3.5 set as default browser but Gwibber opens external links in the default firefox.

Try setting BROWSER in your environment, perhaps in .bashrc or whatever file Xubuntu uses to populate environment variables.

Try dropping in:

export BROWSER=firefox-3.5

From the python webbrowser module docs:

If the environment variable BROWSER exists, it is interpreted to override the platform default list of browsers, as a os.pathsep-separated list of browsers to try in order. When the value of a list part contains the string %s, then it is interpreted as a literal browser command line to be used with the argument URL substituted for %s; if the part does not contain %s, it is simply interpreted as the name of the browser to launch. [1] Executables named here without a full path will be searched in the directories given in the PATH environment variable.
