Is there a way to stop the scrollbar jumping to the top on a refresh?

Often I am reading older messages and a refresh happens and the scrollbar jumps all the way back to the top. So then I need to scroll back down to where I was reading.

Is there an option where I can tell it not to do this? It is really annoying.

I'm familiar with python so I poked around the code but I'm not following the dbus/gtk stuff so I'm not sure where to look.
