sequential tasks vs. actionable

I'm new to GTG, so I might be missing something:

Aren't most sub-tasks sequential (in the real world)?
If they are, shouldn't only the first unfinished sub-task be actionable?

Is there a way to do this?

According to GTG philosophy, a subtask is a prerequisite for the parent. You can create a big tree with many subtasks to make sure tasks are done in sequential order, e.g.

Read the book
 - Chapter 3
   - Chapter 2
    - Chapter 1

Yes, I see that. But when I click on "actionable" or "work view", I'm presented with:

Read the book
 - Chapter 3
   - Chapter 2
    - Chapter 1

...but the only task I should see in "work view" is Chapter 1, since it has to be read before any of the other tasks--it's the only task that is actionable now.

Sorry, I don't understand your question now. I thought you would like to see only Chapter 1 to be shown in actionable tasks.

What do you want to accomplish?
