Will Gourmet be available for Ubuntu 20.04?

Asked by Magnus

It seems it is not present in the beta release.
I'd hate to see it go.

see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gourmet/+changelog

This software depends on an obsolete package (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pygtk ) that is not available in Ubuntu 20.04 any more. (The same is valid for Debian bullseye, sid and experimental.)

Right, ok. I've used Gourmet for many years so it is sad to see it go. Maybe a flatpack or snap or docker can solve this somehow. Or a virtual machine.

I'm also very interested to keep Gourmet going. I wish I was a programmer that could assist...

Two questions;
1) is ANYBODY working on Gourmet at the moment?
2) is it possible to run Gourmet under Ubuntu 20.04 if the old python-package is installed next to the current version (and how would that work).

I'm also interested in Gourmet; I'm using it and it works well for me.

I hope for a snap or a flatpak package....

I installed the windows version by winehq and it works well.

It's a work-around not a solution

Gourmet is built on Python 2.x and needs to be updated to Python 3, as version 2 has been EOL'd. I'm trying to see if it'll go with Futurize ... will report back if successful. Dependency problems may make this too big a lift for me ...

Actually, some wonderful people (Cyril et ah), who are better coders than me, are already on it!

Experimental / alpha? Build: https://www.deb-multimedia.org/pool/main/g/gourmet/gourmet

The very early build actually works for me.
