How can I use Gloobus without copying the file I want to preview to clipboard first?

Asked by Patrick Dignan

When I want to preview a file using Gloobus-preview, I have to copy it to my clipboard first. Is there any way to avoid this problem?

You need to install the patched nautilus or the elementary-nautilus, then you can launch gloobus-preview just pressing the space key!

to patched nautilus is in gloobus ppa, and the elementary-nautilus is in am-monkeyd ppa

Hope this helps!

Ok, so it's not currently possible without the patch to nautilus.

Since this seems to me like a problem, I looked around on the internet to find ways to get the currently selected file in Nautilus, and came upon this: http://kaizer.se/wiki/log/post/nautilus_selection_over_dbus/

I would be willing to try to add support to Gloobus Preview for that plugin, which would remove the need to copy files to clipboard before using Gloobus Preview with unpatched versions of Nautilus! Does this seem like a reasonable path to you?

Wow! this sounds good, it would be great to have a nautilus extension, so we can install it without depending on patch nautilus :D

Can you check out if its possible to install this nautilus dbus extension easely?
The problem but, will be that gloobus will have to be launched with ctrl+space instead of just space, except if is possible to create a nautilus extension that does this, launch gloobus-preview when space key is pressed :D

I think that should be possible, and Nautilus extensions seem to be pretty simple, they can be written in Python or C!

Ah, unfortunately not, but it does still allow you not to require the patched version of Nautilus.
